When, where and what did you play the first time with the English Concert?
The first time I played with The English Concert was in the spring of 2021. It was a studio recording of Handel’s La Resurrezione at the Sage in Gateshead. Deep in Covid times!
What has been your most memorable TEC concert and why?
Too difficult a question. Major highlights include my first US tour with The English Concert where we played Alcina, and Joe Crouch’s “Credete al mio Dolore” is difficult to forget! Emily D’Angelo starting “Ombra mai fu” in our “Serse” tour. Anytime we play Harry’s arrangement of “Evening Hymn” with Iestyn. Tom Foster’s figures! Too many happy memories!
What’s one of your favourite pieces of music and why?
“Why are all the muses mute?” by Purcell. I first played it with The English Concert and I can never let go of the Minuet and the section that follows with the alto and bass solo.
Is there anything about you that would surprise people?
I guess it would be surprising for people to know that I would have loved to have been a competent street dancer… I also once held a North American Time Trial record in Mario Kart for a couple weeks.
