Bass, William Guanbo Su, performs the titular hero, as we he returns to his wife Dejanira (mezzo, Ann Hallenberg), after over a year away in battle. With him is Iole, the daughter of a king he killed, sung by soprano Hilary Cronin. Steven Fox’s radiant choir, Clarion, also return as collaborators with The English Concert, providing their unmistakable vocal timbres.

Last year’s transatlantic presentation of Giulio Cesare in Egitto was critically acclaimed, with the New York Times writing that TEC “sets a standard for Handel performance in the 21st century” and the Wall Street Journal commenting on a “kaleidoscopic array of musical riches.” Previously, NYT described The English Concert’s Carnegie Hall appearances as an “annual highlight” for the auditorium.

Hercules will return to Carnegie Hall, as well as the other venues from the Cesare tour: Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley and the Orpheum Theater in Omaha. TEC will additionally perform Hercules at the Spaulding Auditorium in Hanover, New Hampshire, and return to London for a homecoming performance, with the date and location to be confirmed.
