We are thrilled to perform with internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly at the Two Moors Festival in Exeter. Our specially curated programme compares the parallel musical developments that took place in London and Paris during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. A sequence of highly charged arias from Handel’s London operas are paired with airs from Charpentier’s searing Medée and the ‘beautiful simplicity’ of Gluck’s Orfée. These are accompanied with instrumental selections from Handel’s stately Water Music and the graceful dances from Rameau’s Dardanus.
Connolly, at the peak of her powers, has done nothing finer: she takes us with her every step of the way on a terrifying emotional journey.
