Handel’s Amadigi di Gaula is a dazzling storm of enchantment, love and jealousy. Written in 1715 at the height of his youthful brilliance, it plunges audiences into a world where magic blurs the line between truth and illusion. The sorceress Melissa burns with desire for the knight Amadigi, but his heart belongs to Oriana. Their love ignites a battle of wills, as Melissa unleashes her powers to tear them apart.

Handel’s score is a marvel of invention: radiant arias, fiery emotions and an orchestra alive with colour. It’s a story that crackles with tension and beauty, showcasing the young composer’s extraordinary gift for drama and melody. The Festival celebrates this rarely staged gem as a thrilling reminder of Baroque opera at its most vivid.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
