Christine Sticher is The English Concert’s Principal Bass player.
When, where and what did you play the first time with the English Concert?
It was the first patch of my trial, unlike others I haven’t been already playing with the English Concert before being appointed or trialled.
If I am not mistaken it was a Mozart Requiem at Temple Church.
What has been your most memorable TEC concert and why?
Certainly a prom concert at the Royal Albert Hall. I wasn’t playing myself, but attended as an audience member.
The orchestra played a Handel opera. I really wanted to be part of that. I had never before heard a sound so powerfully sculpted and noble.
What’s one of your favourite pieces of music and why?
It may seem a somewhat sentimental answer, but I always like the piece best that I am playing at the moment, or am about to play.
Do you have a secret interest or hobby that would surprise people?
I partly run a cafe-restaurant in Berlin that is attached to a permaculture garden.
