The English Concert is pleased to announce the appointment of Alfonso Leal del Ojo as its Chief Executive. Alfonso has for the last eight years been the Chief Executive of the Dunedin Consort. He is well known to The English Concert’s players and audiences, having worked with the Orchestra since 2005 and as their Principal Viola since 2007.
George Burnett, the Chairman of The English Concert commented
“We are delighted to welcome Alfonso as our Chief Executive. We much admire what he and his colleagues have achieved at Dunedin. We ourselves are very proud of the artistic range we have developed in recent years, whether it be our Handel opera series, our collaboration with other art forms, our instrumental and orchestral playing or our recent appointment as Orchestra in Residence at Garsington Opera. We are determined to further the horizons of The English Concert both artistically and geographically and believe that Alfonso possesses the key skills and experience to help us to achieve these ambitions.”
Alfonso Leal del Ojo said:
“I am thrilled to take this post with The English Concert after eight years with the Dunedin Consort and to build on the terrific achievements of my predecessor, Gijs Elsen. I look forward to working closely with the board, Harry Bicket, Kristian Bezuidenhout, the wonderful musicians of the orchestra and our supporters, to ensure that our music reaches, moves and inspires as many people as possible, not only those who have faithfully followed us over the years but also those who have yet to discover the incredible sound world of The English concert.”
