Kristian Bezuidenhout named as Principal Guest Director
South African keyboard virtuoso Kristian Bezuidenhout joins The English Concert as Principal Guest Director.
While we have enjoyed working with leaders in their respective fields ever since our foundation in 1973, from current Artistic Director Harry Bicket, his predecessor Andrew Manze and founder Trevor Pinnock, and indeed with regular guests Rachel Podger and Laurence Cummings, Bezuidenhout becomes the orchestra's first Principal Guest Director.

Welcome to our 2017-18 Season
Looking back on 10 years with The English Concert, it is fascinating to see how much has changed and how much has stayed the same in the intervening period. The orchestra still plays to a higher and higher level, as exemplified in the Medici broadcast of Ariodante with Joyce DiDonato from Carnegie Hall last season, though there are of course many new faces. In fact over 50% of the orchestra have been appointed since the beginning of my time as Artistic Director, and we continue to fill positions with the best young players from around the world.Continue Reading
We love music of the baroque and classical periods, and we believe that through our performances on original instruments, with styles of playing and singing appropriate to a composer or period, we can get to the essential core of the music. Kristian Bezuidenhout is one of today’s most notable and exciting keyboard artists, equally at home on the fortepiano, harpsichord, and modern piano. While The English Concert has delighted audiences around the world for over 40 years, with no public funding, the survival of the orchestra is dependent upon the generous donations of its supporters.
