South African keyboard virtuoso Kristian Bezuidenhout joins The English Concert as Principal Guest Director
While we have enjoyed working with leaders in their respective fields ever since our foundation in 1973, from current Artistic Director Harry Bicket, his predecessor Andrew Manze and founder Trevor Pinnock, and indeed with regular guests Rachel Podger and Laurence Cummings, Bezuidenhout becomes the orchestra's first Principal Guest Director.
'Kristian is well known to all our players, and I know they are as thrilled as I am that they will have a regular collaboration with one of the greatist fortepianists, harpsichordists and directors of his generation.' - Harry Bicket (Artistic Director)
Bezuidenhout opens our London season at the Wigmore Hall this September and appears later in the year to direct performances at Kings Place and the Rye Arts Festival in repertoire that focuses not just on the keyboard works of the great early classical masters Haydn, CPE Bach and Mozart, but their baroque counterparts too.
'Kristian has had a relationship - I would go so far as calling it a musical friendship - with the orchestra for a long time. His special interest in early classical repertoire will help us explore chamber repertoire that has hitherto perhaps been a little under-exposed.' - Gijs Elsen (Chief Executive)
