Featured CDs

2010 has so far seen three outstanding releases -

Handel Duets (Chandos Chaconne) with Sarah Connolly and Rosemary Joshua presents a carefully chosen sequence of Handel's most alluring creations for two virtuoso female voices. Dubbed "sixty glorious minutes" by The Independent, this programme inspired critics to superlatives and the audience to its feet when presented as a concert at Wigmore Hall in April.

Albrecht Mayer is principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic and in an intriguing recent recording with us, Voices of Bach (Decca), he creates "new" works for solo oboe from chorales, sinfonias and a cantata by J S Bach.

Maurice Steger, possibly the world's leading recorder virtuoso, made his debut with us in 2008 and last year returned to make a CD, Mr Corelli in London (Harmonia Mundi USA), that presents the astonishing arrangements by Geminiani of Corelli's opus 5 that so captivated London audiences in the early 1700s. Steger returns for concerts with us in the 2010-11 season.

David Daniels' CD of Bach Sacred Arias & Cantatas was recorded at St Jude's Hampstead Garden Suburb in September 2007, our first recording with Harry Bicket as The English Concert's Artistic Director. The results are quite as outstanding as the sessions promised, with brilliant instrumental obliggato contributions from Nadja Zwiener, Katharina Spreckelsen and Lisa Beznosiuk. Starting with two arias from Bach's B Minor Mass, the collection embraces "Erbarme dich" from The St Matthew Passion and the two glorious arias from Cantata 82a, Ich Habe Genug.
