A leading specialist on Handel and on historical performance both as harpsichordist and conductor, he is Musical Director of the London Handel Society, the Tilford Bach Society, Head of Historical Performance at the RAM, and a trustee of Handel House.
He works regularly with the OAE, English Concert and Remix Baroque Orchestra in Porto. He has also conducted the Wiener Akademie, Handel and Haydn Society Boston, Basel Chamber Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, RLPO and at the BBC Proms.
Opera credits include productions for English National Opera, Glyndebourne and Garsington Festivals, and Gothenburg Opera. This year alone he conducts Handel's Alessandro, Theodora, Jephtha, Giulio Cesare and Belshazzar.
His discography includes the first recording of Handel’s newly discovered Gloria with Emma Kirkby on BIS, and Handel arias with Angelika Kirchschlager, Nuria Real and Lawrence Zazzo for Sony BMG.
